Joe Register Donates to °ÙÃĵ¼º½ Engineering to Support Student Innovation

In December 2024, Joe Register, Ph.D., chief engineer at AEVEX Aerospace and a proud alumnus of the °ÙÃĵ¼º½ College of Engineering, generously donated to the °ÙÃĵ¼º½ Foundation to support multiple initiatives within the college. Register earned his master’s in electrical engineering from °ÙÃĵ¼º½ in 2012. His contribution will directly enhance opportunities for students. The College of Engineering expresses its gratitude to Joe and Alicia Register for their generosity.

For years, Aarans Pond has been a dumping ground. A team from °ÙÃĵ¼º½ is trying to change that and improve the water quality. Aarans Pondis located off of Fletcher Avenue near 15th Street and was created more than 50 years ago to deal with flooding in the University area. Stormwater ponds were a common fix for low-lying communities. Learn more about the pond now in 2025.

Mantis Shrimp’s Shock-Absorbing Phononic Shields: °ÙÃĵ¼º½ Engineering Faculty’s Role in New Study

Assistant Professor Meisam Asgari, from the Department of Medical Engineering at °ÙÃĵ¼º½, was recently recognized for his contribution to a research paper published in Science (Vol. 387, Issue 6734, pp. 659–66). The study, titled Does the Mantis Shrimp Pack a Phononic Shield? explores the impact-resistant properties of the peacock mantis shrimp’s dactyl club.

What began in 1973 as a small high school recruiting event has grown into a dynamic two-day showcase of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), attracting K-12 students from across the state.
